I grew up in the world of the Walkman. When you carried a briefcase with all your tapes in it and showed them off like shiny gems. I protected the insert J-cards, making sure that every fold was correct. My first tape I bought was Rocky 4 Soundtrack with James Brown. I thought nothing was better.
In 1989, I received a CD player for Christmas along with Rush – All the World’s a Stage and Red Hot Chili Peppers first disc.
I craved the round disc, buying up all I could. I loved the boxes they were shipped in at first. Cardboard sleeves with large album artwork and song listings. Sorting through the bins hearing the “thump” of them stacking up on each other was music to my ears. Looking at the artwork was the most fun. I collected up more than 1,300 CD’s in 19 years. That is a rough 68 discs a year. I thought nothing was better.
Many of my friends bought into the MP3 players before I did. I even bought my wife one for Christmas last year. It wasn’t until I whittled through my CD’s and started backing them up on my computer, that I thought I needed a iPod. Now the majority of of my collection is on DVD’s and hardrives. I bought a shuffle so that I could listen to music while I am working around the house. It goes everywhere with me now. Everyday a new playlist every other day. I thought nothing was better. Now enters my new iPod Touch. Sweet jumping chex mix is this thing awesome! I love that it does more than just plays music. Now I am one with my Mac. Using it to keep my business and personal life in order is a wonderful thing. What will you bring me next Steve Jobs? Rain your Mac-goodness down!
